America is a country of immigrants. This is irrefutable. While the followers of the “orange persuasion” are calling for stronger borders, the voices of immigrants and refugees are growing louder.

After spending years conducting “creative interventions” with refugee youth, Michigan native Biba Sheikh returns to Detroit with her inaugural exhibition "Mitli Mitlak (Like You, Like Me)", which will be on display until 2019. Many of the featured artists currently reside within occupied territories and refugee camps and have turned to canvas to tell their story, while exploring the unjust cultural and socio-political constructs that result in identity displacement.

Mitli Mitlak (Like You, Like Me) opening begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14; 66 E. Forest Ave., Detroit; 313-831-8700;; Event is free.
