Michael Che steps away from SNL's 'Weekend Update' desk for stand-up at Royal Oak Music Theatre

Posted By on Thu, Jul 12, 2018 at 2:00 AM

You may know him as the charmingly deadpan co-anchor of "Weekend Update" on Saturday Night Live, but comedian Michael Che is more than his headline-riffing gig.

Che, whose early years were spent slinging graphic T-shirts on the streets of NYC, took flight as a comedic force on a limited run of Daily Show appearances. After five years as an SNL cast member, in 2017 Che was named co-head writer of the legendary sketch show. A bit more lively than his news desk persona, Che’s brand of stand-up is an accumulation of what he does best — searing observational humor served dry AF.

Michel Che will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 13 at the Royal Oak Music Theatre; 318 W. Fourth St., Royal Oak; 248-399-2980; royaloakmusictheatre.com; Tickets start at $25.
