What the blockbuster film Black Panther did was more than entertain — it transported, informed, and dazzled audiences. The casting was on point, the special effects were amazing, but one element stood out — the jewelry.

The woman responsible for adorning the people of Wakanda with one-of-a-kind pieces? That would be L.A.-based artist Douriean Fletcher, whose striking afrofuturist metalsmith work caught the eye of renowned costume designer Ruth E. Carter. Hosted by the Charles H. Wright Museum, this Design Talk will feature Fletcher, who will discuss how her designs became an essential element in Black Panther’s rich story.

Douriean Fletcher will conduct her discussion at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 29 at the Charles H. Wright Museum.; 315 E. Warren Ave., Detroit; 313-494-5800;; Event is free and open to the public.
