Detroit Zoo's penguin center wins prestigious exhibit award

Posted By on Mon, Sep 18, 2017 at 12:16 PM

Alright, so the award may not be all that "prestigious," but it's an honor nonetheless that the Detroit Zoo's Polk Penguin Conservation Center won the 2017 Exhibit Award from the Association of Zoos and Animals.

The $33 million exhibit opened in April of 2016 after a redesign of the old exhibit. The new one, which is a whopping 33,000-square-feet, holds a 326,000-gallon, 25-foot-deep aquatic area where visitors of the zoo can see up to 80 penguins doing their thing.

Here is a fun video of the new exhibit to give you a feel about how cool it is.

Sadly, the penguin house didn't win the award for smelliest exhibit, but we've still got next year.
