A year after her death, artist and mentor Gilda Snowden is getting honored at Detroit's historic Scarab Club.

The club will add Snowden's signature to the ceiling beams of its second floor lounge — joining the names of more than 230 artists and other luminaries who have signed the beams since the clubhouse was built in 1928, such as Diego Rivera, Norman Rockwell, Charles McGee, Marshall Fredericks, and Tyree Guyton.

It's only fitting that Snowden should have her name added. As a member of the club's advisory board, Snowden helped select the artists to invite to sign the beams. According to a Scarab Club press release, "artists are selected to honor their 'significant and lasting contributions to the arts and community of Detroit.'"

Painted by Detroit artist Jerome Ferretti, the signature will be unveiled at a ceremony on Thursday which will also feature Snowden's husband and daughter. The unveiling will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19 at the Scarab Club, 217 Farnsworth St., Detroit. More information is available at the Scarab Club website
