A Texan's view on moving to Detroit

Posted By on Mon, Aug 10, 2015 at 11:09 AM

There's so much overstatement about Detroit — whether it be condemnation or praise — that it's actually pretty refreshing to hear somebody speak plainly about what they find interesting. We found just such a blog post over the weekend from a recent transplant from Houston to Detroit. Some of the things that strike the newcomer aren't surprises (abandoned houses) and some might be (the "Michigan left"), but it's a likable little piece, a one-minute break on a busy Monday. The writer doesn't get everything right (our troubles began long before the Great Recession) but it's the thought that counts, right?

We welcome readers to submit letters regarding articles and content in Detroit Metro Times. Letters should be a minimum of 150 words, refer to content that has appeared on Detroit Metro Times, and must include the writer's full name, address, and phone number for verification purposes. No attachments will be considered. Writers of letters selected for publication will be notified via email. Letters may be edited and shortened for space.
