With its many ramps, stairways, and sculptures, we kind of always felt like Detroit's Hart Plaza would make an excellent level in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater video games.

The folks at Red Bull must have felt the same way, though they will actually do one better and transform the plaza into an actual skateboarding course. On Monday, they announced a new street skateboarding competition called Hart Lines that will take place there on May 8 and 9.

Created by pro skateboarder Ryan Scheckler, the competition will feature 20 of the top skateboarders. The contest will feature two distinct lanes, incorporating Hart Plaza's existing architecture along with new structures designed by California RampWorks.

“This is a start to finish contest, including an element of speed, with a very unique course design that allows each skater to express themselves,” Sheckler says in a release. “If I had to explain the contest and skateboarding in one word, it would be ‘fun’ and that’s what I am going for.”

Qualifying will happen on Friday, May 8 between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., and the finals run on Saturday, May 9 between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. The plaza opens for spectators at 1 p.m. each day. The all ages event will be free and open to the public. It will air as part of the Red Bull Signature Series on NBC on Saturday, August 2 at 3:30 p.m. EST. Check out the official site for more information.

Speaking of video games, Red Bull has created a virtual simulation of the Hart Plaza course. Have a look below:
