MLK peace walk planned for Jan. 19

The 30th annual peace walk that celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is planned for next Monday, Jan. 19. 

The walk will feature keynote speaker civil rights attorney Fred Gray and a special appearance by Aretha Franklin. Gray worked with MLK during the Civil Rights movement as well as other prominent figures during that time and even served as Rosa Parks' attorney after she was discharged with disorderly conduct for refuses to move to the back of a city bus. He was the first black president of the Alabama State Bar and served as the president of the National Bar Association in 1985. 



Other speakers will include Acting Council President Sylvia Jordan, 46th District Court, Judge Shelia Johnson, MLK Task Force founder Barbara Talley and current MLK Task Force President Dorothy Dean, Esq.

The walk departs from Hope United Methodist Church at 26275 Northwestern Highway in Southfield at 9 a.m.  The presentation will follow at Southfield Pavilion at Southfield Municipal Complex at 26000 Evergreen Road starting at 11 a.m.
