Pillsbury recalls unbleached flour for possible salmonella contamination

Pillsbury is voluntary recalling 12,185 cases of Unbleached All Purpose Flour that may have been exposed to salmonella.

The cases of flour were sold in limited retailers including Publix and Winn-Dixie chain supermarkets. Currently, Publix and Winn-Dixie do not have any Michigan locations.



The USDA warns consumers to return or throw out Pillsbury Unbleached All Purpose Flour containing batch numbers 8 292 and 8 293 with "best if used by" dates of April 19, 2020 and April 20, 2020, respectively.


The Food and Drug Administration also warns consumers not to eat raw flour (such as in raw cookie dough) for fear of bacterial contamination. According to the FDA, grain from the field may come in contact with bacteria from animal waste. To avoid exposure, consumers should kill bacteria by "boiling, baking, roasting, microwaving, and frying," says Leslie Smoot, Ph.D., a senior advisor in FDA's Office of Food Safety.
