The Conserva, an upscale Ferndale restaurant praised for its inventive dishes, announced on Facebook Wednesday that it will close its doors on Dec. 22, nearly two years after opening.

In the post, partners Matt Baldridge and Jarrod Kassis say that "due to extenuating circumstances in our families, it won't be reasonable for us to continue running Conserva to its full potential."

It's been a rough run at the spot, located at 201 E. Nine Mile Rd., Ferndale on the ground floor of upscale lofts. Before The Conserva opened, the space housed Torino, another critically acclaimed upscale eatery run by a different group. That restaurant was also short-lived, existing from 2013 to 2015 until it closed following a visit from the Health Department. In a statement, the owners said they could not work with such a small kitchen.

The Conserva will host a two-year anniversary party on Dec. 22. It will also be open Tuesdays through Fridays in the meantime.

You can read Metro Times' 2017 review of the spot here. The restauranteurs' full statement is below.
