ICYMI: Bon Appétit on Detroit's Eastern Market

Posted By on Fri, Dec 11, 2015 at 12:05 PM

When you live in Detroit, you're used to finding bummer stories detailing all the stuff that's dysfunctional with your old home town. But there are bright spots amid the darkness. This week brought us an upbeat story about Detroit's Eastern Market, courtesy of Bon Appétit magazine.

It's a neat little piece that gets most of its facts correct and shows that there is beauty and flavor here. In fact, it opens with a description of the annual flower market, when the area is brightest and most colorful. There's even some poetry, though it can overstate things a bit: Particularly, the phrase that Eastern Market is "where the city of Detroit learned how to eat."

We knew how to eat before then, of course. It's just that places like Eastern Market help us eat so much better.
