Zinn fizz

News Hits ventured down to Cobo Hall on Sunday night to hear lefty historian Howard Zinn speechify after receiving his well-earned award from the Cranbrook Peace Foundation. Hundreds of people attended the event, many of them absolutely googly-eyed in their admiration for the author of A People's History of the United States. Having heard Zinn speak, we now understand all the adulation. The octogenarian wowed 'em all with his sweeping grasp of history, sharp wit and gentle good humor. But mostly what we went home with was the sense of hope Zinn imparted as we collectively stare at the horrible Iraq morass Herr Bush has us mired in. Noting that our leaders have consistently favored the rich and powerful since this nation's founding, Zinn reminded us that every so often the masses are able to rise up, flex their muscle and get us back on the right track.

And you know what?

It's that time again.
