The American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan’s new voter’s guide ranks candidates on issues such as legalizing pot, abortion rights and censorship. While GOP frontrunner Lt. Gov. Dick Posthumus did not respond to the ACLU — is the guy against civil liberties? — his challenger, state Sen. Joe Schwarz, scored 60 percent. Not bad for a Republican who used to work for the CIA. As for the Dems, former Gov. Jim Blanchard scored 100 percent; Granholm, 80 percent; Bonior, 70 percent. Bonior and Granholm lost points because they support censorship of materials “that may be considered indecent” to protect children and waffle on reducing penalties for nonviolent drug violations, while Bonior lost more because he’s anti-abortion. The scorecard also ranks and lists answers for candidates running for Michigan House, Senate and congressional seats. Check out: www.aclumich.org/nletter/Voter_Guide.pdf.
