Do you eat organic produce, like music, have a social conscience? If you answered yes to any one of these (particularly the last), you will no doubt want to attend a concert to benefit Earth Works Garden this weekend.

An urban farming project that promotes sustainable agriculture and environmental education, Earth Works began as a community garden in 1997. The Capuchin Soup Kitchen, Gleaners Food Bank and the Hunger Action Coalition of Michigan, which provide food to the needy, expanded the project to other urban gardening groups and family farms around Michigan.

To raise money for the organization, the band Works in Progress, which performs folk, pop, blues and classical music, will play a concert beginning at 7 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 2, at Ferndale’s St. James Church, 241 Woodward. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door.
