Strike back — If you look at what’s going on in the labor market and fear that all blue collar workers will soon either be laid off from what used to be good-paying factory jobs or left toiling away for little more than minimum wage, then you should hit the Crystal Gardens Convention Center in Southgate on Sunday, Dec. 4. Billed as a union solidarity-building session and rally in support of threatened Delphi workers and 4,400 mechanics and custodians on strike against Northwest Airlines, the event will feature UAW president Ron Gettelfinger and Ray Rogers, director of Corporate Campaign, Inc., an innovative group that assists labor organizations. The 7 p.m. event, being held at 16703 Fort St. in Southgate, is free and open to the public. Contact Curt Booza at 248-396-8373.

Rosa’s ride —Transit Riders United, a group dedicated to building support for improved public transit in Michigan, will host a meeting featuring Detroit’s proposed Rosa Parks Transit Center. Officials from the Detroit Department of Transportation will present the current design plan for the facility and seek input regarding station access and mobility, modal connections and amenities. The meeting will be 6-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13, in the mezzanine conference room of the Guardian Building, 500 Griswold St. (at the corner of Congress) in Detroit; 313-963-8872.
