Frog wild — The organization Friends of the Rouge is seeking volunteers to help out with the nonprofit organization’s annual frog and toad survey. The survey is held each year to help raise awareness of the Rouge River and its watershed, and to collect information about said watershed’s frog and toad populations, which provide valuable insights into the area’s overall eco-health. To participate, you must attend a two-hour training session, several of which are scheduled at various locations in the coming weeks. As an added bonus, participants will receive their very own CD containing recordings of the springtime calls made by the lusty male frogs and toads inhabiting the Rouge’s wetlands. Proactive has an additional query: Tired of having our sons and daughters sent to fight wars in the Middle East to keep our oil-dependent nation well lubricated?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above, you’re invited to attend a class on sun-powered electric systems being held Saturday, Feb. 5, at the association’s headquarters in Dimondale. The session promises to provide attendees an “in-depth understanding” of the components that make up a photovoltaic electric system and how the solar-powered gadgets work.
