It sure was awfully nice of the Greater Downtown Partnership to invite Richard Moe, president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, to speak at Wayne State University last week. News Hits is wondering, however, what Moe may have said if one of the 300 or so in attendance asked what he thought of the partnership’s key role in blowing up the historic Hudson’s building.

But everyone behaved themselves – even News Hits – and didn’t embarrass partnership president and CEO Larry Marantette, who gushed over Moe when introducing him. Well, just about everyone. After Moe quoted Winston Churchill, who said, "We shape our buildings, then our buildings shape us," a member of the Riverfront East Alliance, which opposes riverfront casinos, said: "If three casinos are the shape of things to come, we are in deep trouble."
