Poor People's Campaign protest halts QLine service downtown

The Poor People's Campaign of Michigan took to the streets Monday afternoon as part of a national protest for fundamental human rights, addressing such issues as access to clean water and the recent separation of immigrant families by I.C.E. In doing so, the protest halted QLine's service along Woodward Avenue at Campus Martius.

According to the QLine's official Twitter account, "We encourage all members of the public to follow the law and avoid impeding streetcar service."

#ServiceUpdate: A protest at Campus Martius park, unrelated to the QLINE, is blocking streetcar service downtown. In consultation with law enforcement, QLINE service will temporarily run short, terminating at Sproat Street.

Today kicks off week six of the Poor People's Campaign: 40 Days of Moral Action initiative in which the organization says they will focus on "confronting the distorted moral narrative."

The non-violent national organization seeks to "challenge the evils of systemic racism, poverty, the war economy, ecological devastation, and the nation's distorted morality."
