Hey, Detroit art aficionados — you're invited to a shindig celebrating Detroit's latest mural, painted by Atlanta-based artist Alex Brewer (aka
Hense). It all goes down at Detroit’s Madison Building tonight, Sept. 22, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Sorry, guys, we refuse to render it "M@dison." That's a little too 1999 for us.)
The mural certainly has a naive, childlike quality to it. You might be thinking, "Dang, my kid could paint that!" But of course your kid couldn't paint that — this is a six-story ,10,000-square-foot mural we're talking about. Would you let your kid use a cherry picker? We hope not. You might recognize Brewer's style previously from work he's done in the Z Project parking garage.
The evening features musical performance by Detroit Institute of Music Education’s Head of Drums Eric "Rain Man" Gaston and DJ Ric Flair. Apple cider, donuts, and caramel apples will be available, and the El Guapo Grill food truck will be on site slinging tacos as well. The party will be held in the Madison Building parking lot, next to 1555 Broadway, Detroit (weather permitting).
