If you can’t get on board for the trip to D.C., you may want to check out a local event that will be held in conjunction with “Pro-Democracy Week.” On Thursday, Jan. 18, Ron Daniels, the executive director of the Center for Constitutional Rights and former director of the National Rainbow Coalition, will be speaking in Detroit.
The subject of Daniels’ talk will be “Electoral Disenfranchisement & A New Agenda for Democracy.”
The event is being sponsored by the Detroit branch of the NAACP and the Detroit chapter of the National Lawyers Guild.
According to attorney Ron Glotta, a co-sponsor of the event, it should be an invigorating evening. The way he sees it, the election is bringing fragmented pieces of the progressive movement together, creating the potential for a broad-based coalition that will have real clout. The speech by Daniels is an initial step in that direction.
The free event begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at Barth Hall, 4800 Woodward Ave., Detroit. For more information phone 313-963-0843.
