Two individuals were shot, one of them fatally, Tuesday evening on Detroit's east side.

The male and female victims, aged 24 and 19, respectively, were walking the 6000 block of Drexel Street at approximately 6:50 p.m. when shots were fired, The Detroit News reports.

The man was killed from his injuries. The female victim has been reportedly hospitalized and in stable condition.

The two victims were passing out political fliers for a non-profit group encouraging residents to vote when the incident occurred. Police believe that the suspect knew and targeted the male victim and that the violent incident was not tied to the political fliers.

The gunman was last seen running on foot on Hern Street. The suspect is a black male that is between 5'6'' and 5'8''.
