The City of Taylor recently denied Kelly Miller Circus the permit that's required to bring its exotic animals to town.
Of course, PETA had something to do with it. They sent a letter to city council, urging them to acknowledge the abuse inflicted on animals like elephants and tigers in this particular traveling show.
Kelly Miller rents animals from Carson & Barnes, an associated circus that's also come under public scrutiny for its abusive practices. An undercover video shows lead trainer Tim Frisco stabbing elephants so hard they scream and shocking them with electric prods.
PETA's letter pointed out that by law the city of Taylor prohibits exotic animals and treating any animal in a cruel or inhumane manner. Thus, they say city council was compelled to blacklist the circus.
"The Taylor City Council's decision not to support animal abuse and exploitation is welcomed by everyone who cares about elephants and other animals. PETA's motto says, in part, that 'animals are not ours to use for entertainment,' and more and more cities are doing what Taylor did by voting to keep wildlife where it belongs, in the wild," said PETA Foundation Deputy General Counsel Delcianna Winders.
