I read with interest the April 24 article “Grow-town” and I had to laugh to myself. Can you imagine how far we’ve fallen from being the “Arsenal of Democracy” and the “Automobile Capital of the World” to Detroit becoming the ”Green Acres” or “Archer-Daniels-Midland” of Michigan for urban farming. I realize, in the scheme of things, to make Detroit a thriving city again there are a lot of pieces to fit in the puzzle but urban farming on the scale that it was written in the article I doubt it will happen. What needs to happen is for there to be a more concerted effort on the part of the the city administration and the business community to bring in more 21st century jobs and have a trained work force ready to fill those jobs. The “Green Acres” of Michigan, Detroit will not be. - Thomas A. Wilson Jr., Detroit
