Don't be alarmed metro Detroiters — all the tornado sirens going off today, April 19, are just a test so you know what to do if a real twister touches down on the ground. The

Normally, sirens are tested on the first Saturday of the month, but Governor Rick Snyder declared this week Michigan Severe Weather Awareness Week, through Saturday. The sirens go off if there is a severe/intense thunderstorm, high winds, or the dreaded tornado.

Don't be expecting Helen Hunt and her storm chasing crew to be coming to Michigan any time soon for twisters — our forecast is looking pretty twister-free in the next couple of days.
