Forked over

When Phelps and crew are in the area, they might want to stop by the Roseville Denny’s to chow down. It sounds like their kind of place.

We say this because Harold Shank, a gay employee of the Denny’s at 31831 Gratiot, claims he had an altercation with a co-worker who’d continually harassed him. The colleague wound up sticking a fork into Shank’s shoulder. Geez, we hope the fork was clean.

Shank allegedly retaliated by whacking his shanker with a cup. Shank, 47, was suspended for a week and then fired; the utensil brandisher apparently escaped with just a suspension.

All this information comes our way via the Triangle Foundation, a Detroit-based gay-advocacy group that is pursuing Shank’s case. He has already been referred to a lawyer. Crystal Witt, Triangle’s victim advocate, says her group will first attempt to resolve the situation with officials at Denny’s, but if Shank’s termination is not reversed, a boycott of the Roseville location could be organized.

News Hits left several messages, but the restaurant’s manager did not return our calls. Could it be he was busy taking reservations from a certain Kansas minister? Or perhaps he’s out stocking up on grits.
