Emagine Entertainment has partnered with the Detroit Historical Society to create a new trailer for Detroit audiences. The vignette encourages people to visit the exhibition Detroit 67: Perspectives in an effort to bridge the gaps between the film and reality.
The trailer features the former chief of Police and Deputy Mayor Ike McKinnon before the Hollywood Film plays in Emagine Theaters across Michigan. DHS CEO and Executive Director Bob Bury said that the project is crucial to examining the rebellion as a community.
“At a time when this important dialogue is happening across the city and region, we have crafted an exhibition that provides visitors with an extensive history of the events leading up to the uprising in 1967, the many different events that happened during those seven days, and the city’s efforts to move forward since that time,” said Burry. “This context is critical to anyone interested in understanding the 1967 uprising and its lingering effects on the region.”
Emagine Entertainments film producer Sam Logan Khaleghi produced the snapshot that implores audiences to explore the DHS and go beyond the film.
The trailer included some shots from the Perspectives exhibition which is a part of a larger project that will span over five years. The project Detroit 67: Looking Back to Move Forward will push for analysis, community engagement and understanding of the 1967 crisis and how to move the city can continue to grow from the events of 1967.
Emagine Canton will host an engagement of the film Detroit on Thursday, July 27 just before the films nationwide release on August, 4. The film, a dramatization of the Algiers Motel incident during the 1967 rebellion, premiered in Detroit last night at the Fox Theatre.
“The Detroit 67 exhibition provides an opportunity to engage and learn more about our region’s history. Showing this trailer in our theaters is our way of helping advance that conversation and we hope other exhibitors follow our lead,” said Emagine Entertainment CEO Paul Glantz.
