Visiting suburban markets is no longer a buy-the-eggs-and-run experience. West Bloomfield’s Shopping Center Market has recently set up a mini coffee bar, a machine conveniently located at the fish counter (?!). Stick your nose in the scented steam of a Cuban blend instead of inhaling the fumes of stinky fish or the remarkably angry customer waiting in line next to you. Thanks to the Coca-Cola marketers, local suburban Kroger stores now have shopping carts equipped with drink holders. These amenities may seem advantageous, but you might (they hope) finish your drink leisurely and buy more produce, or put your Perrier in the cup holder while wheeling that oh-so-spacious cart. And don’t forget to pay at the checkout.
