Last year, we posted a blog written by Christine & Jacques Driscoll, who asked, “If you lived in San Diego, Calif., would you move to Detroit?” We helped them set up a survey asking our readers a number of questions. And we were heartened by the responses. Dozens of MT readers posted, sounding off mostly in the affirmative.

The outpouring of comments included one that said, “I love this city — moved here from elsewhere and now I'd never live anywhere else. Join the family!” Another poster commented, “Not crazy at all! The time is right to buy in the Detroit area. The city will prosper again. I've given it thought myself!”

Well, after the release of those dismal census numbers for 2010, we thought we’d get back in touch with the Driscolls to see if they’d made any decisions yet. And we were pleasantly surprised to find that, though they missed last year’s count, they took the plunge and moved to Detroit right around the New Year.

Jacques told us: “We are currently renting a place in Brush Park on John R. As for doubts, there are none. We have been loving every minute of being in Detroit. The city and community has been amazing. I have been reading about the population drop, and it is sad — however, I am very confident in the future of Detroit. The energy here is unbelievable and I could not think of a better place to be.

Christine has been working at the Detroit Medical Center, and I got a part-time job at Rocky’s in Eastern Market.”

They also were kind enough to send along a picture of themselves installed in their Brush Park home. Moving to Detroit and being delighted by the D? Hats off to our new neighbors!
