It sees 13 Detroiters offering up their fave Motor City spots in colorful (and flattering) photos and words.
The usual gems are there among those picked including, naturally, the Detroit Institute of Arts Diego Rivera Courtyard, Belle Isle and Woodward Avenue, but so are some lesser-loved jewels like the Telway Diner, Big D’s Barber and Beauty Salon and “a renovated house on Warren Avenue.”
Ara Howrani, owner of Howrani Studios, a downtown commercial photography venture, chose Michigan Avenue as his spot. He describes its path from Campus Martius, past the Tiger Stadium remains to underground galleries, churches and restaurants.
Since this piece went live nearly a month ago, Howrani’s seen much attention on his Facebook page and has received lots of emails from pals around the country. “They picked Detroit in my mind because they want to show that money is still circulating here. People are alive and happy, it’s cool,” he tells Metro Times. “Detroiters are alive and kicking and enjoying living here.”
Yes we are.
