In honor of last week’s big inaugural bash, News Hits wants to offer you a few bons mots — one from the Bushman himself, and a few taken from signs created by his fellow Americans who showed up in D.C. on Saturday to demonstrate their disregard for the new Commander in Thief.
The quote comes from George W. Bushisms: The Accidental Wit and Wisdom of our 43rd Presdent, a new paperback edited by Slate’s Jacob Weisberg.
Among the many juicy Bush-bits collected by Weisberg is one that deals with our very own governor: “Laura and I are proud to call John and Michelle Engler our friends. I know you’re proud to call him governor. What a good man the Englers are.”
Maybe Georgie boy, with his intimate knowledge of Michigan’s first couple, knows something the rest of us don’t.
As to the signs of our times, we offer you these observed at the inaugural protest:
“Clarence Thomas — The only black vote that counted.”
“Who’s your Daddy?”
“George W. Bush is the resident, not the president.”
“The United Snakes, hiding behind the Bushes.”
“Never trust a son of a Bush.”
“We got Jebbed in the back!”
And our particular favorite: “Don’t mourn — Organize!”
