Brain-dead drug policies

Apr 11, 2001 at 12:00 am

Proof that just the subject of illicit substances can cause severe brain damage: The politicians who continue to advocate an escalation of our so-called “war on drugs.” Otherwise intelligent people are transformed into blithering idiots anytime they try to justify our lock-’em-up approach to the issue. Billions of dollars have been spent, and the problem is as bad as ever. Check out the movie Traffic if you want a truly chilling indictment of just how failed our approach to the problem has been.

Those of you in a desperate search for a sane, reasoned exploration of the problem and ways to address it will want to attend a free conference being held by the Detroit branch of the National Lawyers Guild. The two-day event at Wayne State University Law School begins on Friday, April 27. For more information, visit the Guild’s Web site at www.michigannlg.org or phone 313-963-0843.
