We now have an idea why Republican gubernatorial nominee Bill Schuette's Detroit campaign office is starting to look like an abandoned property: It seems his campaign has run out of money, with just a week left until election day.
The Associated Press reports that Schuette's campaign had pulled nearly $445,000 worth of TV ads across the state. The campaign hasn't given up hope entirely, however — it will still run $441,000 worth of ads in the Detroit market.
"Asked one R why Scheutte was cutting the buy," New York Times national political correspondent Jonathan Martin tweeted. "The answer: lacking cash."
WWJ's Tim Skubick agrees. "Basically, what this says is, the Schuette campaign is almost out of money," he said.
Earlier, it was reported that the Schuette campaign had only $100,000 on hand, and that Schuette reportedly cut a personal check to his campaign for $325,000. The news also comes after two new polls found Whitmer had regained her double-digit lead over Schuette.
