On Sunday, Dec. 12, The Detroit Institute of Arts will open its newest exhibit, a spectacular collection of Venetian glass, in Murano: Glass from the Olnick Spanu Collection. Murano is a small cluster of islands in the Venice Lagoon, and has been home to master glassblowers for centuries. The DIA’s exhibit will focus on the present, showcasing more than 200 examples of modern glassblowing from the 20th century. The exhibit runs until Feb. 27, 2005. The Artcite Gallery in Windsor will present Doin’ The Louvre, the gallery’s 23rd annual fundraising exhibition and sale. Artcite is Windsor’s nonprofit, artist-run gallery, and the special exhibit presents a great gift-giving opportunity for the art-lover in your life. The collection includes all manner of multimedia art, jewelry, toys, Christmas ornaments and more. Prices start at only $1, and nothing is priced over $99.99. A new gallery in Troy opens this weekend, with the unveiling of Symmetry Gallery, Ltd., which kicks off its grand opening with a special holiday show featuring local and national work in glass, ceramics, sculpture, painting and more.
