If you feel like taking a trip north this week...

The city of Mount Pleasant -- home to Central Michigan University -- kicks off its second annual Midwest Fest tomorrow, Tuesday, July 21st. Midwest Fest 2009 is a five-day music festival running through this Saturday, July 25th, coinciding with Mount Pleasant's Street Fair and Art Festival. There will be 62 different bands -- both local and national -- performing on four different stages over the course of the five days. As an added bonus, breweries from all over the Midwest will also be on hand to sell their wares throughout the festival. Tickets are $8 to $12 per day (depending on which day) or $30 to $40 for a five-day pass. Tickets can also be bought at local Mount Pleasant retailers for a slightly lesser price if a store puchase is also made. Click here for a full schedule and more info.

Some of the bands appearing on the various stages incle Epic Records recording artists Margot & the Nuclear So & So's and Matador Records' Times New Viking, as well as such local faves as Chris Bathgate, the Silent Years, Javelins, Bug Lung Baby (featuring members of Mason Proper), Child Bite, the Decks, Friendly Foes, Prussia, Silverghost, our favorite local "folkie" Matt Jones and Almost Free, among numerous others.
