Use these ride-sharing discounts to help get you to the polls on Election Day

Posted By on Mon, Nov 5, 2018 at 4:27 PM

From finding time to get out of work to get to the polls, to finding a candidate that doesn’t suck, voting ain’t easy in this country.

According to the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement, more than 15 million people couldn’t vote in 2016 because they lacked transportation. So this time around, these ride-sharing companies are offering discounted rides to get you to the polls.

Lyft has partnered with a litany of "get out the vote" organizations to roll out their The Ride to Vote program, which offers half-priced rides to polling stations for registered voters. Enter your zip code on Lyft’s partner
Buzzfeed’s site to receive a promo code on Election Day.

Lyft is also offering entirely free rides to registered voters in “underserved communities,” though you’ll apparently have to enter your zip code to find out if that includes you.

The shared bike and e-scooter company Lime is offering free 30-minute rides on any of their vehicles in Detroit and about 100 other cities across the country. Enter code LIME2VOTE18 to take advantage of the offer.

As the company proudly tweeted, #CitrusGotReal.

Uber is offering a $10 discount on rides to the polls, which is slightly more generous than Lyft’s $5-capped discount.

Unfortunately, you’ll have to share this deal with your friends outside of Michigan, because we, along with “Puerto Rico, or other US territories” are excluded from the otherwise nationwide offer.
