Good news, Detroit isn't number one for car thefts!

An infographic compiled using data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Uniform Crime Reporting shows that Detroit (though still in the top 10) isn't as plagued by car theft as other "more attractive" major cities.

According to 2016 data, metropolitan Detroit ranked eighth for most vehicle thefts in the nation with a total of 11,746. This is less than a quarter of the number of car thefts that occurred in the greater Los Angeles area in the same year. Detroit also fell behind popular transplant cities like Seattle and metro Denver, which saw 15,537 and 13,278 car thefts in 2016, respectively.

Detroit ranked seventh for the number of car thefts per 100,000 residents, with 672.1. Meanwhile, Midland ranked as one of the top 10 cities with the lowest rate of car theft in the nation.
