Update: M-1 Rail has a name

Update: Quicken has spoken. QLine it is.
The folks behind the M-1 rail were supposed to release the transportation system's official name in November. Then they decided to put a pause on the announcement. Four months later and we're still calling it the M-1 Rail. Well, that may change. According to's Facebook page, sources say the light rail line is going to be called the ... wait for it ... QLine.

Thoughts in the comments, please. — AG

For years, we've been talking about our M-1 rail system, which will connect downtown with New Center and the mid-city area. We thought we were pretty up-to-date on the matter. (We even blogged about "everything you need to know about M-1.")

But then, today, we learned that M-1 isn't even the name of the "streetcar system." What is it? We don't know, but it will apparently be announced at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, in front of the former Compuware Building. Really? We weren't aware M-1 wasn't the final name.

Does this raise the possibility that it will be named something ungainly like the "Gold Bond Medicated Foot Powder Rail System"? We sure hope it's something more tasteful, and less in tune with the corporate naming phenomenon that's now firmly entrenched in the stadium development world.

With a few more days before the announcement, we'd like to put it to our readers: If you had your way, what would you call this new system?
