Update: Ally Financial to consolidate regional operations into downtown Detroit

Posted By on Mon, Mar 30, 2015 at 6:32 PM

(Update 6:00 p.m.):
In what could be related news: A little birdie tells MT Ally Financial, the former finance arm of General Motors, is expected to announce as soon as tomorrow it will consolidate some, or all, of its operations across metro Detroit into a building in downtown Detroit. No word yet on what the details are — we may find out tomorrow. Ally has regional offices in Southfield, Detroit (inside the RenCen), Troy, and Auburn Hills.

John Roach, spokesperson for Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, said he's unaware of any announcement taking place tomorrow. DDA spokesperson Bob Rossbach said he has no idea what's on the agenda for tomorrow's meeting. Gina Proia, an Ally spokeswoman, did not immediately respond to requests for comment by email and phone.

Media reports earlier this year indicated Ally would shuffle all of its operations to Southfield
(Update, 5:35 p.m.): The DDA meeting has been rescheduled for 1:30 p.m.
A special meeting of the Detroit Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has been called for 11 a.m. on Tuesday. It's unclear what the agenda of the meeting is — the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC), which staffs and operates the DDA, doesn't post agendas on the DEGC website — but we've heard it'll likely pertain to the announcement of a corporation relocating to downtown Detroit. An employee at the DEGC said she was unaware of what was on the agenda. DDA spokesperson Bob Rossbach said of the agenda by email, "I have not seen it and it is generally not released until the meeting has convened."

We'll update here if we hear anything in the meantime.
