Under a bill proposed this week in the state Legislature, Michigan landlords could send an eviction notice to tenants by email, according to The Associated Press

State law says landlords must deliver eviction notices in writing, either on site or by mail. The bill scheduled for a vote on Wednesday in the state House would permit electronic eviction notices only with tenant consent.

The bill would prohibit a landlord from refusing to enter a lease because a prospective tenant declines to consent to an electronic eviction notice.

This fits nicely into the conversation that was launched last year about phasing out landline phone service across the state. Similarly, critics decried the possibility of such legislation excluding those who haven't quite entered the 21st Century just yet.
