The City of Detroit is warning telephone scam targeting residents. The city says some residents have received calls from individuals who say they work for Detroit, according to a press release.

"The caller asks that you allow them into your home to give you an estimate on flooring, roofing repair, and other possible home repairs," the release says. The phone number connected to the mayor's office appears on the caller ID, but it's "not being placed by the Mayor's office or any entity within the city," the release says.

The scam is known as "caller ID spoofing." The city says to not reveal any personal information, and to call the police at 313-267-4600 if "you feel that you have been victimized by a crime."
