Maxwell Steiner, of Grosse Pointe Woods, obliterated the previously held world record for stone skipping: The college student earlier this year sent one bouncing across a lake in Pennsylvania 65 times. The previous record? 51.

Oddly, the Guinness Book of World Records notes, the previous record-holder, Russell Byers, was on-site for Steiner's attempt:

The record for the most consecutive skips of a stone on water is 65 and is held by Maxwell Steiner (USA). The cast was achieved at Riverfront Park, Franklin, Pennsylvania, USA on 23 August 2014.

The previous record holder, Russell Byers (who achieved 51 skips at the same location, on 19 July 2007) was one of the witnesses for the record attempt.
