Report: Aramark worker a suspect in attempted hire hit

's Jack Lessenberry says in his column this week that, although the Michigan Democratic Party has called on Gov. Rick Snyder to cancel a $145 million, three-year contract for statewide prison kitchen operations with Aramark Correctional Services, they "don't really want Aramark fired, at least not yet..

"They figure that every [Aramark is] still there helps their chances this fall," Lessenberry writes.

Well, today, Snyder might be reconsidering — again — whether or not to can Aramark: the Detroit Free Press reports, an Aramark food service worker at the Kinross Correctional Facility in the U.P. is accused of approaching an inmate to ask if they would kill another inmate. From the Freep:

Det.-Sgt. Michael Schroeder of the Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie post told the Free Press Wednesday police have sent a warrant request to the Chippewa County Prosecutor's Office following a lengthy investigation and are awaiting a response.

An inmate complained in July that a food service worker approached him about arranging to kill an inmate held at another facility, in Michigan's Lower Peninsula, Schroeder said.

Freep's Paul Egan writes the suspected worker was put on a so-called "stop order," which prevents him from stepping foot on prison property.

Aramark took over prison food services in Michigan's prisons last December.
