Posted on Fri, May 23, 2014 at 4:19 PM

Detroit Metro Times is seeking a new food writer to join our team.

We’re looking for a dynamic foodie who has a flare for writing about culinary pursuits and loves Detroit food. This writer is plugged in to the bar and restaurant industries, and can get the inside scoop on restaurant openings, closings, and special offerings. They also know what conflict of interest is and how to avoid it.

The ideal food writer is as comfortable in fine dining as they are at a taco truck in Mexicantown. They are familiar with culinary and cultural distinctions around the world, and able to identify how they appear in metro Detroit. This writer is craving a platform to tell the engaging, meaningful food stories that local and national media outlets ignore or overlook. This person knows where and how to find those stories, while staying ahead of the curve and setting the trend.

The ideal food writer is capable of writing enthralling magazine-style food and drink features as well as short 200-word articles. A knack for food photography is a plus.

We are seeking a food writer who wants to blog daily, engage with the public, and is comfortable making public appearances on TV and radio. We are looking for a writer who knows how to harness the power of social media without being tethered to it.

The ideal candidate is curious, self-motivated, and energized by Detroit. They have a sophisticated palate and taste for good, honest dish and drink. Their passion and commitment to the city and food journalism are apparent in their work.

If you think you are all this and more, we want to hear from you. Please email your resume along with your three best, published clips to us at jobs[@]metrotimes.com
