So, you live in Detroit and have been wondering for a while  now what’s going on with that vacant, dilapidated  eyesore next door. Repeated calls to the city haven’t  produced any clear answers.

What’s a person to do?

The answer – thanks to the good folks at the nonprofit Data Driven Detroit and the city’s buildings, Safety Engineering and Environmental Department — is to go here.

If you do, what you’ll find in an interactive map showing where in the demolition process a structure might be.

“Data Driven Detroit (D3), in collaboration with the City of Detroit Buildings, Safety Engineering and Environmental Department (BSEED), is excited to announce the release of a new, interactive online map illustrating the locations of upcoming and completed demolitions in Detroit since 2010,” says D# in a press release. “Users can view the interactive map to see which buildings have been approved by Council for demolition, which are "in-process" of demolition (lining up funding, shutting off utilities, removing asbestos, etc), and which buildings have been completely cleared. Users can also use the map to provide feedback to BSEED in case of error, or to report a structure.”

See — there are at lest a few good things happening, even in the midst of the economic crisis.
