Tonight: Special 16mm showing of the T.A.M.I. show at Third Man Cass Corridor

Here's a very fun event — pretty sure it's the first event at Third Man Cass Corridor since they opened on Black Friday. They're showing it on film, in both their Detroit and their Nashville locations simultaneously. That's pretty cool.

Produced in 1964, THE T.A.M.I. SHOW (an acronym for Teenage Awards Music International) is a legendary concert film showcasing some of the biggest acts of the period, including Chuck Berry, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Lesley Gore, Smokey Robinson, and a “Battle of the Bands” between James Brown with his Famous Flames and The Rolling Stones.

THE T.A.M.I. SHOW was shot live over two days at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on videotape, using the then-innovative Electronovision (and then transferred to film).

This broadcast was rarely seen for decades due to rights issues, but last December, Light + Sound Machine hosted a T.A.M.I.

Show screening during our regular third-thursday film nights, and what happened was much like what' you'd expect in a room full of good people, good beer, and the best music that's ever been made: a dance party ensued. And thus, a tradition was born.
