’Tis the season for hot cocoa, caroling and ... totally laying waste to Guinness World Records?
For metro Detroit-based company UglyChristmasSweater.com, the holidays just got a whole lot uglier. In an attempt to break the world record for the largest gathering of people wearing holiday sweaters, the company is calling for all hands on deck, right here in Detroit.
The gathering will take place on Saturday, Dec. 9 at Beacon Park downtown. In order to be included in the official count, however, you must be at the corner of Cass Avenue and Grand River at 6:30 p.m.
The original record was set in 2015 when 3,473 people sported holiday sweaters at a Kansas vs. Montana basketball game.
It should be noted that solid holiday colors do not count. Participants must wear holiday sweaters with clear Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa themes. Don’t have the garb? No problem. UglyChristmasSweater.com will be slinging gear onsite.
The party continues after the attempt with a multi-genre silent disco at the Winter Lodge tent hosted by Channel 955, WJLB, and WNIC.For more on the event, click here.
