If you're in town for the Thanksgiving holidays, and turkey just isn't enough, then you need to hit the Attic in Hamtramck and check out Big Jack Johnson. A Mississippi native, Johnson won the Best Live Performer award from Living Blues Magazine in 1994. If you've ever seen this man perform live, then you know why he won. Johnson's virtuosity has landed him gigs with musicians ranging from country singers Tammy Wynette and Carl Perkins to blues legends Robert Nighthawk and Jimmy Reed. In 1996, Big Jack's powerful song, "We Got to Stop This Killin'" appeared on the Living Blues radio chart for four straight months. The following year he received two W.C. Handy nominations; one for Song of the Year, the other for Best Male Contemporary Artist. He also received three Living Blues nominations and a National Association of Independent Record Distributors nomination for Blues Record of the Year. In 1998 Johnson was again nominated by the Handy awards for Best Blues Guitarist. Do not miss this guy. Please.
