Protomartyr
Under Color of Official Right
Hardly Art

Of all the local bands to make the jump to a national audience, Protomartyr is a pleasant surprise. With a frontman who deadpans more than he sings, and a brutal, sparse backing band, Protomartyr isn’t the obvious choice for a pre-release stream over at NPR. That said, production is clean yet still undeniably punk. A highlight is “Tarpeian Rock,” a list of those who deserve to be thrown from the titular cliff over a dance groove — the lyrics calling for “alt-weekly types” to join the likes of “greedy bastards,” “gluten fascists,” and “adults dressed as children.” See you at the bottom.
