Peter Murphy
Lion
Nettwerk
For years, Peter Murphy was seen as a very beautiful man. He kept himself out of the public very effectively, and the image of eternal youth was retained for the rock ’n’ roll vampire and former Bauhaus man. Then he got into a car accident last year, and we all got to see the most unflattering mug shot. The mystique was destroyed. It was like a real life picture of Dorian Gray gone bad. His new album, Lion, goes some way to rectifying that. Like a Gothic Bowie, Murphy starts strong with “Hang Up” and never dips. Moody, intense, and musically relevant, Lion finds Murphy back in his elegant stride.
