Got an e-mail from Detroit legend John Sinclair the other day. He's back home in Amsterdam...but he just posted something about his most recent excusion to the D on his "On The Road With John" (entry #9, to be exact) at his JohnSinclair.us site. Being John Sinclair, of course, he mentions both the Ann Arbor Hash Bash and his attendance at Dana Beal’s Million Marijuana March -- God love him (don't have to worry about that kind of stuff in Amsterdam, of course) -- but also writes about cutting a track with local jazzbos Milton and Phil Hale for an upcoming Sinclair CD titled, appropriately enough, The Detroit Album. The music is the background for a new Sinclair poem, titled "bag's groove," which, according to John, "turned into an elongated roll call of great Detroit jazz players since World War II." Read the text at his site.
You can also hear a steady stream of Sinclair's on-air programs — including the John Sinclair Radio Show, Blue Dolphins, New Orleans Music from the 420 Cafe and Jazz from the Hempshopper — at Radio Free Amsterdam.
